Within the sphere of toil and quest for bread
Disparity increases as of right,
As over time a barrier is erected
That screens the wealthy from the widow’s plight.
A person’s rank is given by their role
In the play of gain and loss, till no one sees
The fellow-creature, the G-d-given soul,
Save where the Seventh comes to give release:
In every week the restful Sabbath day,
The cropland’s rest in every seventh year,
Till at the fiftieth sounds the All Clear
That renders back the farms Time sold away
And the enslaved return to their own kin.
So it was decreed on the holy mountain.
