Exodus 10:1 - 13:16
Water, earth, air, and flesh of man and
beast,
And green of leaf, and light of moon
and sun
Were all corrupted, withered, dimmed,
laid waste,
As the laws that had kept them were
undone
At G-d’s command. But Par’oh’s heart
held out,
Was stronger than the world where it
had seemed
To have its roots, immune to fear or
doubt,
As if that world were something he
had dreamed.
But from his idol-guarded ruined town
G-d summoned Moshe forth and let him
see
The first glint of the moon that would
grow round
Upon the first feast given to the free.
But only as a final crushing blow
Could word of G-d and freedom come to
Par’oh.
